Bella Montoya Castro76 years old, began to feel unwell at home in St. Ecuador early Friday morning, June 9th. Her son did not hesitate to take her to the emergency room of a nearby hospital, where she was diagnosed with a stroke. Shortly thereafter, he became worse, and despite the efforts of the doctors, he died. Or so they thought declared death. And the fact is that after a few hours, when they watched her, some blows from inside the coffin they showed that a big mistake had been made with her. This may seem like something completely exceptional, but the truth is that there are quite a few cases when the dead woke up in the morgue or at their funeral.

IN 2014, Yanina Kolkevich, a 91-year-old Polish woman, woke up in a morgue after her alleged body lay in a refrigerator for 11 hours. As soon as you wake up he ordered soup and pancakes to eat. In the same year Paul Muthora, a 24-year-old Kenyan, woke up 15 hours later in the morgue where he was taken, presumably died from ingestion of insecticide. Later, in 2018, a 29-year-old Spanish prisoner, Gonzalo Montoyawas found dead in his cell during a morning check. Three doctors pronounced him dead.. However, when mortuary pathologists heard suspicious and terrifying snoring coming from the bag in which the body was found, they discovered that all three were wrong.

These are just a few examples of the many deceased who woke up after his supposed death. But what do they all have in common? The surname Montoya, despite appearing on two occasions, is not the answer. In fact, each situation is individual, but they all show that, perhaps, one should be a little more careful when declaring death of a person.

The dead who have woken are preserved in the cold

What is it like to be dead? Loss of brain activity? Stopping heartbeat? Lack of muscle activity?

To answer these questions, we must distinguish clinical death and biological death. The first one occurs when both heartbeat and breathing stopwithout any injury brain cells. At this stage, consciousness and pulse are lost, but there may still be a reversion, as some patients can be resuscitated. If this is not possible, biological death occurs, which is already irreversible. This is because when the heart stops beating, the cells stop getting their normal supply of oxygen. In addition, toxic substances begin to accumulate, which are normally excreted with the proper functioning of the bloodstream.

This causes the cells start to die. Cerebral ones are especially sensitive, so they deteriorate in a few minutes. Thus they are produced irreversible brain damage which make it impossible to restore the pulse and breathing. This is when a person is finally abandoned, as if he were dead. Presumably, two Montoya, Kolkevich and Mutora were in a state of biological death. But these awakened dead show that there may be something else that is not taken into account.

In the case of the Polish lady, the key is in the fools. As explained in Guardian funeral equipment Carla Valentinewhen brain cells are preserved cold, it takes longer for biological death to occur. For this reason, it is possible that Kolkevich not only did not wait for the statement of death, but, without realizing it, the morgue workers extended his life until he regained consciousness.

Drugs that keep the dead

In the case of the Kenyan, it is believed that, paradoxically, he was able to rise from the dead thanks to the treatment that saved his life. Typically, cases organophosphate poisoning, like the insecticide Mutora, they are treated with atropine. It is an alkaloid which, among other functions, relaxes smooth muscles. This prevents death by suffocation. But also can significantly reduce heart rate. So much so that it is almost impossible for patients to find a pulse.

Perhaps this is what happened to this man, who regained a normal pulse and consciousness when the effect of the antidote disappeared.

Catalepsy: the main cause of the waking dead

Most cases of wake-up deaths documented in the scientific literature were diagnosed with catalepsy.

It is a disorder of the central nervous system that causes bodily paralysis along with hardening and tension of the muscles. People with catalepsy also become insensitive to pain. For this reason, death certification methods used in the past, based on sticking needles under the nails or slitting the nostrilsThey were useless too.

That is why cases of the awakening of the dead were very common in the past. Today there are not so many of them, but still from time to time you can meet the dead who really had catalepsy.

This is because your heart rate it is also reduced so much that it is very difficult to measure the pulse. This can happen due to the use of certain medications, as well as due to the presence of diseases such as parkinsonism or schizophrenia. In the case of the Spanish prisoner, it is believed that this was a case of catalepsy caused by epilepsy. The man was taking medication but did not appear to take it regularly.

What happened to Bella Montoya?

It is not yet known what happened to Bella Montoya. At the moment this entered the intensive care unit from the same hospital that had pronounced him dead a few days earlier. Doctors still do not know why he rose from the dead, if at all. I hope your relatives don’t have to go through your funeral twice in a short amount of time. Now this must be very painful.
