Ming-Chi Kuo speculates that the upcoming AirPods Pro 2 will use Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector. In addition, the well-known Apple analyst states that mass production in Vietnam will take place in the second half of this year, with an expected release date of September/October 2022.

At the end of last year, images of the alleged AirPods Pro 2 surfaced.

According to Kuo, Apple chose Vietnam to diversify its production, and establishing facilities in that country instead of India would also reduce potential geopolitical risks. Production and refining of prototypes would still take place on Chinese soil, as it would not be easy to set up a full production facility outside of China.

While Apple appears to be planning to switch entirely to USB type-c after many protests, it may take some time before this is really the case. Earlier this month, Kuo announced that the American manufacturer will not launch the first iPhone with USB-C (the so-called iPhone 15) until the second half of 2023.

The EU wants to implement a universal charging standard for mobile devices with USB-C.
