With the new Pixel 6, Google has tuned its cameras to more accurately capture the different skin tones of any person. At the same time, they aimed for greater inclusiveness, taking into account the many existing tones.

With that in mind, back at Google I/O, the company launched the Monk Skin Tone Scale. an open source library to help make image machine learning more inclusive through better interpretation of tones and shadows.

Well, as shared on Twitter, these new Real Tone filters are now available to Google Photos users on Android, iOS and the web.. According to Google, filters are specifically designed for “works well on all skin tones”.

“The new Google Photos Real Tone filters are starting to roll out today on Android, iOS, and the web. These filters have been designed by imaging professionals to work well with all skin tones, so you can choose a filter that reflects your style.” explained on twitter.

And the fact is that Google has already announced to us that this new Monk scale can soon be used in the Google Photos app. The new filters include Clay, Desert, Honey and Isla and have the Made With Real Tone tag to help you distinguish them from other filters on the platform.

Each filter also has settings you can make to further enhance any image you want. It should be noted that currently We don’t see the new filters in Google Photos.

However, Google has decided to keep the source code of the Monk scale open source, allowing third parties to use it for their apps and products. That being said, it seems more than logical that we would now find other image or photo editing applications with these new filters much more representative.
