With the release of AMD’s new 600 series chipsets, most of the major motherboard manufacturers have already introduced some of their motherboards for the series. Below is a brief summary of the information known to date.
Chipsets for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series come in three flavors: X670E (“E” stands for “Extreme”), “regular” X670, and B650. The X670E is of course the top model; on an X670E motherboard, all PCI slots are PCIe 5.0. The X670 supports pcie 5.0 for both video card and m.2 ssd, but manufacturers can decide for themselves how much to use it. The B650 chipset only supports PCIe 5.0 for storage, while video cards still run on PCIe 4.0.
MSI has already been very open about their new X670 and X670E motherboards. The picture above shows almost everything you might want to know. They come with three X670E motherboards: MEG X670E Godlike, MEG X670E Ace and MPG X670E Carbon WiFi. Of the three, only Carbon has WiFi, HDMI, and displayport connections. The PRO X670-P WiFi is the only ‘non-E’ X670 motherboard. Remarkably, MSI has decided not to use the PCIe 5.0 slot for the video card, there is only one PCIe 5.0 m.2 port.
Asus has only released some information about its flagship model X670E: Crosshair X670E Extreme. Crosshair gets two PCIe 5.0 slots and two m.2 connections for video cards. There is a 20+2 phase (110A) power supply for the Ryzen CPU. Also on the motherboard are WiFi 6E and 10 Gbit and 2.5 Gbit network ports. No specs are known yet for the ROG Strix X670-E WIFI Gaming, TUF Gaming X670-Pro WIFI, ProArt X670 Creator WIFI and Prime X670E-Pro WIFI, but we can assume they all have WiFi.
Asrock is also still reluctant to provide information. Announced X670E Taichi, X670E Taichi Carrara, X670E Steel Legend and X670E PRO RS. The X670E Taichi is known to get a 26-phase VRM. The X670E Taichi Carrara is a special edition of Taichi to celebrate Asrock’s 20th anniversary.
Gigabyte seems to be the only one to equip their X670E motherboards with PCIe 4.0 expansion slots as well. The X670E AORUS Xtreme has one PCI 5.0 and two PCIe 4.0 slots. There are at least four PCIe 5.0 m.2 connections. There’s also an X670E AORUS Master, X670 AORUS PRO AX and X670 AERO D.
Another motherboard with the B650 chipset has been announced, but that will likely happen in the coming months. Everything should be on the market in the fall.
