In the end, the leaks proved correct, Hasbro officially unveiled a very expensive adult replica of the Reva’s Lightsabervillain of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi Series, available on Disney+ since last Friday. The lightsaber is part of the line Star Wars The Black Seriesthat is, the one dedicated to adult collectors, including extremely detailed action figures and replicas of the saga’s weapons and helmets.

Over there Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber is part of the HasLab program, Hasbro’s crowdfunding platform dedicated to the most ambitious products. The same platform that in the past allowed the production of a giant version of Jabba’s galleon, as well as a Razor Crest from The Mandalorian in scale with models from The Vintage Collection (it was over two feet long).

The toy contains the peculiar design of the Lightsabers of the Inquisitor seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi and the animated series rebels We find the round hilt, which, however, can be divided into two parts. The two blades can be removed at will. You can use just one, or both, to get a sword similar to Darth Maul’s. It is also possible to remove both so that the replica can be displayed in its official stand. When both blades are in place, the lightsaber measures just under 200cm in total!

Like all products from Force FX Elite Lightsaber Line, also in this case we are talking about an interactive product: the slats light up, with progressive vertical ignition, and we also find many sound effects. Hold down a button and the blade glows white, like when the Jedi and Sith try to cut through a steel door (remember the opening of the Phantom Menace?). By briefly pressing the same button, the lightsaber reproduces the effect and sounds of deflecting a blaster attack. In short, it is a very funny toy.

Unfortunately there is no mechanism to turn the hilt on its own like in the two series. Too bad, because it is one of the most special features of the swords of the Inquisitors.

It is not certain that it will actually be produced

It is the first time that a lightsaber of the Black Series line is presented at HasLab, but given the circumstances it is not difficult to imagine the reasons for this choice. The replica of the lightsaber it costs 549.99 euros, and is by far the most expensive Star Wars product Hasbro has ever presented. A niche product, dedicated to a very small group of collectors.

As expected above, HasLab is a crowdfunding platform: toys only go into production when a minimum number of pre-orders have been reached, in this case set at 5,000. Otherwise, the user will be refunded and the project will be discarded. It will never see the light.

The first two HasLab Star Wars projects were a hit: Jabba The Hutt’s Galleon and The Mandalorian’s Razor Crest financed without a hitch, sold like hot cakes and became cult objects (we don’t recommend looking at prices on eBay ). Then last year, something got stuck: Hasbro tried to sell a huge Rancor action figure that was featured in Return of the Jedi. It was supposed to be the first crowdfunded Black Series action figure (almost 40cm high, 106.68cm wide with limbs widely spread), but Hasbro failed to get the required 5,000 pre-orders. The blame for the price – considered excessive – and the unsatisfactory bonuses promised in achieving the ‘side goals’.

It goes without saying that this time too it is far from certain that the Star Wars The Black Series Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber will actually be produced. It threatens to be the second sensational flop in a row. The price is very high – we repeat, the highest ever for a Hasbro Star Wars product – and maybe Reva hasn’t had enough time to win the hearts of fans yet. We’ll see, but we’re very skeptical: 5,000 pre-orders isn’t very little. There is still time until July 11. If the project is approved by fans, the product will ship by the end of 2023.
