NZXT has released the first Z690 motherboards for Intel’s 12000 processors. In terms of specs, the N7 and N5 are very similar, but the former has more armor. Either way, the manufacturer wants to offer a minimalist board that is both white and black.

White and black versions of the N7 Z690 and N5 Z690 at a glance.

The N7 and N5 Z690 are equipped with 8-pin and 4-pin power connectors for the CPU, as well as four DDR4 dimm slots for modules with speeds up to 5,000 MT/s. While the N7 uses 12+1 current phase, its little brother has to make do with 8+1. The number of PCIe slots is the same: three x16 and two x1 copies. Remarkably, the N5 can house up to four m.2 SSDs, one more than the N7.

I/O also shows many similarities: both models have three USB 3.2 Gen 1 type-a ports on the back, as well as USB 3.2 Gen 2 speed duplicators and a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-c connector. In addition to the two USB 2.0 ports, there are also some audio ports and HDMI, networking options consist of Ethernet and WiFi 6E (and Bluetooth 5.2). The top model has some extras: the N7 comes with a clear cmos button, one extra USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-a port instead of Gen 1, and more 3.5mm audio connections.

Z690 motherboards are available immediately on the NZXT website with a suggested retail price of 240 and 300 euros. The N5 Z690 and N7 Z690 are now also available in the Product Comparator.
