Automaker General Motors used 3D printers for part of the new Chevrolet Tahoe. In total, 60,000 pieces were printed, a rubber seal for the spoiler.

GM designers made a last-minute change to the Tahoe’s design, so the part needed to be added quickly. In the end, it took just five weeks from design to delivery. With traditional injection molding this would take more than twice as long.

General Motors has invested heavily in 3D printers. In 2020, the company opened a 1,400-square-foot facility that houses 24 HP Multi Jet Fusion printers. It was already used for small parts like 3d printers, emblems, gear knobs, tools and now a sealing rubber.
