With an eye to electric vehicles and a modern, energy-hungry home, Toyota will launch its first home battery in its home country of Japan from August. The O-Uchi Kyuden is an 8.7 kWh battery that can power the home and possibly even convert the power of an electric vehicle for home use. No price has been announced yet, but pre-orders are already possible in Japan on request. No information about a possible international release has yet been announced.

O-Uchi Kyuden allows users to power their homes with a maximum output of 5.5 kWh. With the product, Toyota wants to encourage people to use solar panels and make it possible to use the electricity produced by the home battery at night.

In an emergency (unthinkable in earthquake-prone Japan), it can also be used as an electric vehicle power source to power a home. A maximum of 1.1 kWh can be drawn from an electric car with a voltage of 100 volts.
