Jurassic World: Dominion has ditched some of its best dinosaurs

Collider Trevorrow asked how the process of deciding which dinosaurs would appear in the final cut went. And the director admitted that it was one of the most difficult decisions. After all, in every movie of the saga, the main character is the great beast of the Jurassic period. “There is a scene where we see a Lythrosaurus, an animal that ends up in the ring with Chris Pratt sitting next to Kayla and he is fighting an Oviraptor. And honestly, it’s one of my favorite things about the movie, and it’s not there. You will have a chance to see it one day. But this is just one of those almost trivial moments. One of those who can be said to be a 12-year-old boy who was allowed to act in the film, filming one scene. So it’s pretty stupid,” the director explained. Apparently, the sequence included a plot twist in which the camera showed the behavior of both creatures in the midst of a fight. “It didn’t add anything to the plot, but it was fun.”

And finally, feathered dinosaurs

To the delight of lovers of science and paleontology, in Jurassic World: Dominion this was the first time dinosaurs had feathers on screen. And, according to Trevorrow, it was a complex decision, which, of course, required significant technical effort.

“We have four,” he explained to Collider. “The one who really defined everyone else was Pyroraptor because we made an animatronic for him as a reference and we acted. I have used it a little. And all these feathers, which were collected from all over the world, were involved in the production. And I went in, and there was only this table full of 150 different kinds of pens.”

Finally, one of the big challenges was the creation of larger and more powerful dinosaurs. In fact, one of the principles of the films of the saga is without a doubt to create ever more fearsome dinosaurs. And Dominion was no exception. What forced, of course, to approach the story from different angles. “I think what we see in this film is that the Giganotosaurus is capable of surpassing the T-Rex in many ways. For me, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus are the top predators of their era and region. And that’s what we wanted to show in the film, in all its terrifying scope.”
