Tesla’s next gigafactory could be in Mexico

Elon Musk is looking for new locations for Tesla’s next factory, and while it’s not yet clear where it will end up, Mexico has many votes to be the firm’s choice of location, along with Canada and the US.

At a meeting with his staff last week, which was supported electrekTesla CEO confirmed to his employees that the company looking for new locations build an additional factory that would allow Tesla to maintain and increase production.

In this sense, one of the workers asked where in the US the new plant would be located, to which Elon replied that the company had not yet decided. But the matter did not stop there. He also added that he does not have to be in the United States. “We are looking at sites, but we are looking at some options for sites more broadly in North America, including Canada and Mexico, as well as the US,” the CEO said.

The priority is to increase production in Texas, but Tesla wants another plant

The difficulty of increasing volume at Giga de Texas is due to changes to the Model Y and its structural battery system with the famous 4680 cells.
