If you have a Microsoft account and want to change your password, you must enter a security code from a confirmation email. The password cannot be changed without this code. If you receive the mail too late or enter the generated security code too late, the security code from the mail is no longer valid. In some reported cases, the account is then locked. Microsoft is not responding to complaints and says it relies on artificial intelligence algorithms.
Anyone connected to a Microsoft account will be banned from the company’s services when blocked. You may lose access to any saved files or programs associated with the account. According to a Borncity reader, a code was requested at 6am, but the mail was sent around 4pm after the process was attempted multiple times. Sometimes several codes came in at the same time, none of them worked. It was not specified whether the error also occurred when sending text messages.
Account lockout seems to happen randomly. Complaining about it is pointless. The company is not responding or not responding. According to Microsoft, AI algorithms are relied upon to make such decisions. Therefore, if problems arise when changing the password, support should provide only limited assistance.
It is not clear at this time whether the issues affect other users as well. It is also unknown how many accounts were affected by the error. This may not be considered an isolated case, as only a very small number of users are allowed to change their passwords on a regular basis. So far, Microsoft has not made a statement on this matter.
