Good news for those planning to buy a new SSD in the near future: TrendForce predicts that almost all products with nand-flash memory will come cheaper in the next quarter. The price of enterprise SSDs will remain largely the same, while the price of consumer models will decrease by 3 to 8 percent.
According to the market researcher, this decline is due to increased production of Kioxia and Western Digital on the one hand, and reduced demand for flash memory due to the pandemic and inflation on the other. For example, fewer laptops and Chromebooks are being bought by consumers, and the smartphone market is also showing slow growth.
The professional segment is doing well: data centers continue to place large purchase orders, corporate sales in the third quarter are expected to be 10% higher than in the previous quarter. However, TrendForce does not expect prices to rise due to the combination of greater demand and greater supply.
