Since we live in a state of law, in order to enjoy our freedoms, the first thing we must do is to be in order with the established norms. That’s why to work we have to be registered with the social security system, and to drive we have to have an ITV seal.
ITV, for those who don’t know, is an acronym for Technical Inspection of Vehicles. In other words, it is an exam or test that all vehicles (cars, motorcycles, vans, trucks…) must pass in order to drive on the roads of Spain. Every country has its own ITV.
This inspection is essential, especially in older vehicles, as it checks that the brakes are working well, that the belts continue to work, that the vehicle is not emitting excess fumes, that the headlights continue to glow within minimum settings, etc.
Passing ITV was never easy, at least if our car was not in good condition. That is why mechanics always advise to go through the workshop a few days before passing the ITV, thus correcting possible minor malfunctions of the car.
The fact is that during the pandemic, two classic ITV tests were banned due to the health crisis, as it endangered drivers and test technicians. Now, this Friday, June 30, 2022, they have resumed those two tests.
The entry into force of the new version of the Instructions for Inspection of ITV Stations (v. 7.6.1) means that the correct condition of the frame cut-out will be checked again and the vehicle’s ECU will be checked with an OBD reader.
For those who don’t know, on-board diagnostics (OBD, an abbreviation in English) or on-board diagnostics is the name given to a system that helps to monitor and monitor both the engine and the various systems of the vehicle.
