By following these steps, you can easily resize partitions.
With the progressive increase in capacity that classic internal hard drives have suffered, and with the price drop they have experienced, it is very common to find new hardware mounting storage equal to or greater than 1TB and of course, two or more sectionsone for system and one for data.
These partitions, which many times already come in new equipment that we buy, can be in sizes that we consider suitable and therefore we will not touch them for the rest of the disk’s life, now too maybe the size of the partitions is not what we want, and we need to increase or decrease them so that we like them..
So today let’s see how easy we can shrink or expand our partitions using Windows 10/11 Disk Manager.without using any external applications and with good results, although with some limitations, which we will also see.
How to expand or shrink sections
To reach our goal we will follow the next steps:
- Right-click the Windows icon in the lower left corner.
- Click Disk Management.
- Find the hard drive where you want to change the current and partition.
- Right-click a section and select an option to shrink or expand.

Disk Management is a very useful tool
As you have seen, from this option we can now shrink or expand sections. You must consider a number of characteristics about this process:
- Make sure you have a backup before changing partitions
- Unable to expand a partition if there is no free space or without first shrinking another partition
- You can only expand a partition if there is free space to the right of it, and never if there is another partition to the right of it.
Still This process is quite simple and safe.but touching partitions can always cause us problems if the process does not end correctly, so we recommend that you have a backup, but if you already have one, feel free to try different partition size combinations until you find the one that best suits your needs.
