The mass production ofHummer EV, General Motors’ hulking electric pickup, has been around for months now. Still, it doesn’t seem like everything is going well: apparently the car manufacturer it only produces 12 a day — as evidenced by a report from the Wall Street Journal.

It is, to use The Verge’s words, an ‘abnormal and extremely low’ number. For example, Ford produces 150 F-150 Lightnings a day, to name the vehicle on the market closest to the electric Hummer. Even Rivian, a startup that has faced several problems, has been able to bring its daily production between 30 and 40 vehicles per day.

General Motors recently announced a price increase for the Hummer EV. A good $6,250 more, justified by the rise in the prices of raw materials and some components.

Today the waiting list to buy the pickup well is included 77,500 customers Moral? If GM keeps up this pace, it will take about 17 and a half years to satisfy all the customers on the list. Just unthinkable. In an email to The Verge, a GM spokesperson announced that the company is working to “drasically increase” the number of vehicles produced per day. The production increase is expected to happen later this year, when a new specialty battery plant in Ohio becomes operational.

Electric cars, if they are the tonnage of the Hummer EV, are not exactly zero emissions:

Only the batteries of the new Hummer EV weigh as much as a Honda Civic
