A Broken has paralyzed several at once robot taxi experimental testing of the cruise company. The self-driving car they suddenly stopped working and blocked city traffic in San Francisco for a few hours.

The incident dates back to Thursday. The vehicles would suddenly stop working and the company is still investigating the causes of the breakdown.

Cuise is a startup partly owned by auto giants General Motors and Honda. The company has been testing its self-driving cars on the streets of San Francisco since February. Cruise launched an experimental robotic axi service last week, currently still in beta and open to a very small number of customers, nearly all of Cruise’s employees.

The service only operates on certain specific San Francisco streets, and only from 10 PM to 6 AM, when traffic is normally less busy. The cars are under no circumstances allowed to exceed a speed of 30 mph, moreover they are forced to interrupt their service in bad weather, for example when it rains heavily. In short, the robotaxi service is still immature at the moment and will have to pass for several more years before it can become fully operational.

The company was forced to send some employees to the site to manually clear the track. Although Cruise’s staff showed up at the accident scene in less than 20 minutes, it took the employees several more hours to figure out how to remove the vehicles – completely broken down and free of any signs of life.
