Tesla will present his robotaxi tomorrow, Thursday, October 10, and around that time new rumors have emerged about both the design of the autonomous vehicle in question and the event at which it will be announced. According to BloombergElon Musk could use the opportunity to unveil a surprise car.
In this sense, the above-mentioned media indicate that Tesla investors believe that together with robotaxis can launch a van or van with autonomous capabilities. Without a doubt, this fact should be taken with a grain of salt, since there is no official source confirming it. Although it is also true that in recent years the company has given hints about a possible car with such a form factor.
Without going too far back in time, last June during the annual shareholder meeting, Elon Musk revealed a plaque with existing Tesla models and three others in development, including possibly a robotaxi. While the tycoon didn’t give details of what exactly was covered, one of them appeared to be quite boxy and shaped like a van.
Likewise, when unveiling the third part of its 2023 master plan, Tesla included the “buses” and “commercial and passenger vans” categories in a comparison table with parameters such as batteries, global fleet sizes and other statistics. Although this mention was not a direct reference to the company’s products, there was a mention of TBD on the box dedicated to the Tesla equivalent for these types of vehicles; that is, “to be determined” in English.
More information about Tesla robotaxis and other possible announcements
If the supposed van is advertised next to a Tesla robotaxi, Bloomberg indicates that it can be used for mobilize groups of 12 or more people or for make deliveries yourself. Let’s see if this is true or if this is an erroneous forecast.
As for the robotaxi itself, the aforementioned media outlets reveal some additional details about the design that Tesla would choose. Apparently, a 100% autonomous electric car without a steering wheel or pedals will only have two placesin this case, the doors will open upward using the system “butterfly wings”.
It is believed that if confirmed, this concept will not be too far from what we have already seen in the prototype image that was included in the biography of Elon Musk written by Walter Isaacson. This model already met both parameters, since it only had room for two passengers and an upward opening system, but was different from the gullwing system implemented in the Tesla Model X.
Other announcements that may also take place during the robotaxi presentation may be Full autonomous driving Tesla Semiadvances in the development of the humanoid robot Optimus and cheaper versions of the Model 3 and Model Y.
Tesla robotaxi event will be named We, robot and will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 10th from 7:00 pm PT; that is, 20:00 in Mexico, 23:00 in Argentina and 4:00 on Friday the 11th in Spain. This can be followed live on Tesla’s official X (Twitter) account.
