Vkusville has installed hydroponic modules in its stores to extend the shelf life and preserve the freshness and presentation of potted vegetables. In two months, the retailer increased sales of fresh herbs at individual points of sale by 200%, while write-offs decreased three times, the company reported to RB.RU.

Currently, special modules have been installed in 20 stores and 3 dark stores of Vkusvilla; The project is in the expansion stage to the entire network. The company does not disclose financial investments in the development and installation of modules.
The hydroponic module is a facility through which the nutrient solution circulates through channels. Pots with greenery from suppliers are inserted into the openings of the channels and the roots have access to nutrition. The system is also equipped with lamps and filters.
Vkusville refined the design and dimensions of the facilities together with its partner, optimizing the devices for small stores.
“Hydroponic vegetables grow better and retain quality for customers longer. Vkusville’s assortment is increasing to 9 items, including: cilantro, parsley, leaf lettuce, salanova lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach and dill. Particularly noteworthy is the capricious basil, which turns black in the refrigerator and wilts faster in the heat; “hydroponics creates optimal conditions for this,” the company said.
The recommended shelf life of hydroponic modules is 15 to 20 days.
