The hybrid version of Aurora will not run applications for Windows and Linux-based operating systems. WMD has not yet made plans to develop a full computing version of the Aurora hybrid.

Eiges said OMP will develop a multipurpose platform to implement the hybrid workplace concept. Rostelecom, owner of WMD, intends to invest about 500 million rubles in this direction.

The Kommersant interlocutor indicated that these investments will only be enough to complete the interface. Another newspaper source called the amount too high because WMD does not plan to develop applications for the operating system.

In September 2023, Rostelecom received 100% of OMP, having exercised the option to purchase 25% of the structures from RBC co-owner Grigory Berezkin. Under the terms of the agreement, the operator was to purchase the share from March 2021 to March 2028, at the seller’s choice, for no less than 606 million rubles.

Smartphones and tablets from Russian manufacturers Fplus, Bayterg and Aquarius with the Aurora operating system will go on retail sale in November, a source previously told Kommersant.
