People love to look for exotic ways to consume traditional foods. A good example of this is Bubble tea. It may seem that a business dedicated solely to selling tea drinks with tapioca pearls I wouldn’t have much of a future. However, these days we find them on almost every corner. And usually with long lines of customers waiting to drink bubble tea.

There are those who take it simply because they like it, without further ado. However, there are also Bubble Tea consumers who believe that since it is a tea-based drink, it is just as beneficial as an infusion. But this is not true. At least not usually.

If we prepare Bubble Tea at home, we can do it without any sweeteners. However, in cafes and specialized establishments it is usually prepared with large amounts of sugar.

Be careful what you sweeten

Roughly speaking, Bubble Tea is a flavored tea infusion, to which are added tapioca balls. The tea drink can be prepared with water, vegetable drink or milk and is almost always sweetened. Sometimes the drink is sweetened directly, and sometimes tapioca pearls are sweetened. In any case, the main goal of the latter is more give texture what does it taste like, so sugar usually goes into the drink.

To give this drink a healthy twist, variations have emerged that use alternatives such as honey instead of sugar. There are also tapioca pearls, which contain fruit juice responsible for the sweetness.

All of this may seem healthier, but it’s all the same sugar in different formats. insulin spikes what it generates, and the long-term effects are exactly the same as if table sugar were added. Therefore, unless we prepare Bubble Tea at home and add sugar, it is not a completely healthy drink.

Bubble Tea Pearl Ingredient

This is food cheap, low fat and very energeticsince it consists mainly of easily digestible carbohydrates. For this reason, it is a widely consumed food item in developing countries. So, in countries where we have good supplies of carbohydrates, is it necessary that we add them to our infusions? Not really. It’s more of a distraction.

On the other hand, it is precisely due to its high carbohydrate content that tapioca has high glycemic index. If taken with a sugary drink, the aforementioned insulin spikes can very easily occur.

On the other hand, tapioca contains certain substances that can cause reactions in people with latex allergies because the immune system confuses them with latex allergens.

FOMO and bubble tea

Bubble Tea is all the rage right now. Therefore, many people try to do this due to the psychological phenomenon known as FOMO. The term comes from the acronym “Fear of Missing Out” or in Spanish. “It’s bad to miss something.”

Humans are social creatures, so not participating in what most people are doing can make us feel very nervous and anxious. As a result, there are people who don’t like tea and have jumped on the Bubble Tea bandwagon.

With all that said, does what we saw mean we shouldn’t try Bubble Tea? Not really. Everyone is free to drink what they want. We just have to understand that this is not a completely healthy drink. Do we like it because of the experience and because we are saved from lost profits? Forward. But there are no benefits that justify it. We must remember this too.
