use of the CoronaVac vaccine against Covid-19was approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) on Wednesday (13) for children ages 3 to 5. The directors of the agency were unanimous in the decision.

Approval was granted on an emergency basis to expand the coverage of this segment of the population that had just started getting vaccinated in January this year. The decision widens the age range for childhood vaccines.

In a note, the request for approval of the vaccine was made by Butantan on March 11, according to Anvisa. The research institute also submitted research data confirming the effectiveness and safety of using immunizers.

The agency’s servers also analyzed data from Chile and China, countries where CoronaVac has been applied to children. The use of the immunizer in these places has yielded benefits without any safety warnings. The approved dose is the same as currently used in children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years.

“From all the evidence, I conclude that the known and potential benefits of the CoronaVac vaccine outweigh the risks of expanding the vaccine’s administration to children aged 3 years and older,” said Meiruze Freitas, director of reporting, in a note. .
