Temple of Zeus: Found in Egypt

In the Egyptian Sinai are the remains of a Temple committed to Zeus. We are exactly in the archaeological site of Tel al-Farma, in Egypt. The discovery managed to emphasize the importance of different religions. In this case it is Zeus, the Greek god of the sky united with the cult of the regional gods of Mount Kasios.

A discovery that has been sought after for almost a century. In 1910 it was Jean Clédat, a French archaeologist who
discovery of an architrave, late Greek inscription. It assumed the presence of a temple,
not found at the time.

The excavations of the temple started near two huge granite columns, which represented the entrance door, which fell to the ground due to an ancient earthquake, the temple was built with mud bricks on a raised platform and the ceiling was supported by pink granite pillars. An ascending staircase covered in marble was probably used by the worshipers to reach the temple platform.

Upon the discovery of the temple some large blocks of pink granite, perhaps reused to build churches.
An inscription was found in the temple that completes the inscription found by Clédat. It reveals that
Emperor Hadrian ordered new additions to the temple of Zeus Kasios. Then he becomes the accuser of Alexandria,
Tito Flavio Tiziano, to start the works.

Pelusium, the ancient city fortress, where the temple is located, dates back to the late period of the Egyptian pharaohs. after it is
went through the Greco-Roman and Byzantine periods. Mount Kasios, home to several gods, lies between Syria and
Turkey. It was a place of struggle for supremacy between Zeus and Typhon, the monster of the storm. Zeus has conquered him
thanks to his lightning. Then the arrival of the Greeks brought the cult of Zeus, which merged everything into Zeus-Kaisos.
