We’ve heard all the possible and impossible rumors about the flagship chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of the new generation. Initially it was rumored that it would not arrive until May next year, but later there were discussions as the manufacturer will hold a conference in mid-November and Qualcomm will discuss the new chip at the Qualcomm event. Today, the company has officially confirmed the conference schedule and said that the new chip will be on the podium.

Qualcomm today released the announcement that refers to the launch date of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip when it announced the latest generation of wearable device chips, i.e. Snapdragon W5 and W5 + Gen 1. Qualcomm holds its annual events in Hawaii and there will be no changes this year, the Snapdragon Summit 2022 will last for three days from November 15 to 17 and therefore the chip maker would have anticipated the launch date accordingly.

Qualcomm hasn’t specifically mentioned why the Snapdragon summit will take place in November, but we think it’s somehow related to the specifics of the Chinese smartphone market. There is a very popular sale period called the Spring Festival and at that time the Chinese market gets billions in revenue and smartphone makers are no exceptionso it is possible that as a result of this move, many manufacturers will be able to produce new models in the run-up to the event.

Coming back to the chip itself, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will definitely be very different from its predecessor. While it still uses a 4nm process manufactured by TSMC, the SoC is said to use a strange 1+2+2+3 CPU architecture. The latter looks like this: 1 x Makalu core + 2 x Makalu core + 2 Matterhorn core + 3 Klein R1 core. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC can contain one Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A720 cores, and three power-efficient Cortex-A510 cores. At the same time, the chip is expected to integrate the Adreno 740 GPU.
