In some South American countries, Netflix has launched a new test to allow users to access the same account from multiple different locations. Netflix has announced a new formula called ‘Add a house‘: gives, by paying extra, access to the same account from two different houses.

In short, it is no longer possible to just share a subscription with friends, acquaintances and distant relatives. If more people want to use the same subscription to access the catalog, they will have to pay a little more.

Over the past 15 years, we have worked hard to build a streaming service that is easy to use, even for those who travel or live with other people. We’re excited that our subscribers enjoy Netflix movies and series so much that they want to show them to others. However, the current extreme sharing of accounts between different families is undermining our ability to invest in the future of the platform and improve our services

a company spokesperson said.

The ‘Add a house’ option is an experiment. The feature was introduced in five different South American countries: Argentina, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The test starts next month.

Users will have to pay about 3 euros per month to add a new feature to their subscription. Subscribers with a basic subscription can add a maximum of one extra home; it goes up to two for Standard plans and three for Premium.
