According to a statement from the Russian government, the head of the Russian space agency RoscomosYuri Borisov met with President Vladimir Putin to decide the future of the international space partnership. On Tuesday (26), Borisov announced Russia will withdraw International Space Station (ISS) after 2024.
The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) relied on Russia to continue to help keep the station operational through 2030. According to some experts, it would be extremely difficult to keep the ISS operational without the help of the Russian government and astronauts.
“A decision was made to leave the station after 2024. “I think then we’ll start building a Russian orbital station,” he said.
end of partnership
It is worth noting that a few days ago the US and Russian space agencies signed an agreement to share some flights to the International Space Station – the partnership will allow two Russian astronauts to travel with the NASA space shuttle.
Currently, the ISS is jointly managed with Russia, the United States, Europe, Japan, and Canada. The station has been in continuous use for almost 22 years, shortly after construction began in 1998, and is used to conduct a variety of scientific research.
