The robotic arm is made in Italy and is collected i alien champions Brought to Earth by Mars Sample Return. The latter is a program of the NASA co-created withHex. The robotic arm is called Sample Transfer Arm and is being built by Leonardo, at the top of a European industrial consortium. The deal was finalized at the Farnborough International Air Show in England.
This contract confirms our leadership in space robotics, a core competency in planetary exploration and orbiting operations.
Gabriele Pieralli, Managing Director of Leonardo’s Electronics Division
It has a length of 2.5 meters and has the structure of a human arm. The robot also has video cameras and a brain for identify and collect the tubes with monsters from alien earth. The delivery of Leonardo’s robotic arm is scheduled for 2025. It will be installed on NASA’s Sample Retrieval Lander with the task of collecting samples. They will be transferred to a small rocket that will bring the materials to Earth. Then the ESA Earth Return Orbiter will bring the materials to our planet.
This robotic arm is a testament to the vast amount of skills and know-how we have in Europe.
David Parker, ESA’s Director of Human Exploration and Robotics
Italy is also supporting the fantastic project to bring samples from Mars to Earth thanks to the Italian space agency.
A new success of the Italian industrial chain that is confirmed as an international reference in reconnaissance missions and in this case in particular in the challenging and innovative sector of robotic technologies.
Giorgio Saccoccia, President of Asi (Italian Space Agency)
