According to the minister, priority will be given to patients with severe symptoms in drug delivery. There are already more than a thousand cases of the disease in the country. Last Friday (29), the first death from the disease was confirmed.
In Europe and the United States, tecovirimat is in compassionate use as a type of special authorization for unregistered drugs. The new drug acts against a specific protein of the orthopox virus that causes disease and can eliminate human, cow, and monkeypox pathogens in animal tests.
However, due to the low number of cases, the new drug cannot be tested on a large scale to prove its efficacy in humans. For this reason, tecovirimat is provisionally authorized for use worldwide.
