Book one holiday on Booking.com, but when he shows up at the hotel, he finds that the photos didn’t match reality in the least. A resident of Milan therefore decided to file a complaint against the platform and ask for compensation for his “ruined holiday“.
The fact dates back to 2018: the man had paid 2,250 euros for a week-long stay in Vieste, in Apulia. After a quick search on Booking.com, he found a hotel that looked perfect and didn’t even cost that much. Shame the photos had been retouched ad hoc and the structure was much more run down than it appeared on the site.
“What should have been an Olympic-sized swimming pool was slightly deeper than a bathtub,” lamented the 44-year-old man. “Not to mention the cleaning of the rooms”. At the time, Booking.com had not taken the Milan tourist’s protests seriously: the site had limited itself to canceling the reservation, without any refund. Hence the decision to file a complaint.
After four years, the verdict came: the justice of the peace of Milan Alexia Dulcetta agreed with the Milanese and sentenced Booking.com to a fee. The Amsterdam-based company will have to refund the customer the full amount of the booked stay, to which must be added the legal costs.
