Users technological products sometimes we think a wallet with legs whose only freedom is to pay. Otherwise, we are slaves without a voice and the right to vote. We pay for the product, but no one asks us when features that might be useful have been removed.

July 11 last year Chromecast device updated with Google TVvia firmware update QTS1.220504.008. This was the first update since October, so it included important improvements… and the end of functionality that Google doesn’t mention in tech support.

Improvements include all security fixes up to May 2022, 4K HDR video performance improvements, WiFi and Bluetooth connection performance improvements, and bug fixes. Looks like a top update, but there’s also a notch that has been hidden: removal of third-party screensavers.

According to ReviewGeek, after updating it Chromecast with Google TV Many users have found that his splash screen is gone, replaced by the official Google splash screen. Others managed to save it until they went into settings. Then it suddenly disappeared.

Google hides this cutout in the firmware changelog, so it didn’t explain why.

Analysis and opinion on Chromecast 2020 with Google TV

Perhaps it could be because few people use itbut according to tweets published by ReviewGeek, it seems that there are users who are fans of third-party screensavers like Aerial Dream.

This may also be due to security issue This is the perfect excuse that is usually used in such cases.

The most likely explanation is that it is simply annoying competition for the new Ambient Mode and the new splash screen recently released by Chromecast with Google TV.

This new screen saver from Google activates when the TV is in standby mode and offers information such as weather, news, shows your photos, and more.

It’s quite beautiful, but many users like it other types of less intrusive or more personal screensavers and from that moment on, they will no longer be able to use them.

Removing useful options instead of offering them never pleases customers. But there is little that can be done about it.
