Over the years, patents and licensing rights have been the subject of major disputes between technology companies. The fight Sonos Google is the perfect example, some features of the Nest speakers and House have infringed the patents of are S and when the latter sued Google for the licensed money, it removed the related functionality altogether. Likewise, Oppo and OnePlus have now been forced to withdraw their phones from Germany after losing an appeal against a patent infringement lawsuit from network giant Nokia, and it could happen in other markets later.

The patent dispute between Nokia and Oppo is about technology 4G and has been going on for several years, the Mannheim District Court issued an injunction in favor of Nokia in early July (as explained by WinFuture) and ordered the two sides to come to an agreement, otherwise a ban on the sale of Oppo’s phones would have been imposed.

Both companies apparently failed to resolve the matter, leading to the Munich Regional Court imposing a sales ban on Oppo and OnePlus smartphones in the country. from August 5. An Oppo spokesperson said the issue stems from a 4G licensing deal with Nokia, in which the Finnish giant demanded an unreasonably high renewal fee and went to court a day after the deal expired.

Oppo has removed all listings of its smartphones and associated product listings from its German website, but has released a statement confirming that existing Oppo users can continue to use their devices without any problems.
