A proposal from the Councilors of the Environment and the Capital, Statute and Technological Innovation Committees of Rome approved by the Capitoline Assembly unanimously. It concerns the setting of the figure of Animal rights guarantor in the capital of Rome.
He becomes an independent figure of the administration, appointed by the mayor with the advice of the Environment Committee. The term of his mandate will correspond to that of the mayor, who will in any case remain in office until the appointment of a successor. Personalities with proven experience can express their interest in a potential Guarantor by means of a public notice on the institution’s website.
This provision integrates the current 2005 Animal Protection Regulation, including the principles of Community, national and regional law.
Giammarco Palmieri, chairman of the Capitoline Environment Commission and one of the promoters of the law initiative
I thank the Capitoline Assembly for approving the creation of the Animal Rights Guarantor, which adds another important element to the Gualtieri government’s policy to promote and protect animal welfare in our city. Provide a figure in Mayor Gualtieri’s program lines to pay close attention to animal welfare. We want Rome to return to the forefront of animal rights protection, but above all an inclusive city. After the important resources budgeted for animal welfare, today another very important step in this direction.
Sabrina Alfonsi, Capitoline Councilor for the Environment
