Developed around the Asinara and the west coast part of the Sardinia the checks that ISPRA carries out within the STRONG SEA project. These are monitors to map ALDFG, abandoned gear or lost that could destroy the habitats of Posidonia oceanica and Coralligenous meadows. The aim of the project is to strive for the protection, improvement and conservation of habitats at an environmental and ecological level. STRONG SEA is funded from the 2014-2020 programmed funds. It formally commenced in 2021 and will run for 5 years.

The monitoring phase of the fishing gear scattered in the Asinara Gulf area of the Life Strong Sea project has just been completed, the areas indicated by fishermen and diving centers, where abandoned pots and nets are found, both in trawling and post . It was a very important stage for the project because it made it possible to understand where and how to act for removing the nets and where it is better to make the missing tools inactive. The removals will be carried out in September and will be carried out by marine biologists who will work according to the principle of protecting the habitats concerned, with the aim of protecting their conservation status. Given the complexity of the dives, the investigators will make use of the precious cooperation of the divers from the State Police, who were already present during the monitoring operations just concluded.
