There is a security issue with the bootloader previous in the series Pixel 6and Android 13 prevents the vulnerable version of Android 12 from being reinstalled, but the developers have compelling reasons to roll back to Android 12 on their Pixel 6 devices to continue testing apps.
Google released today (as it explains) android police) Android 12 developer support images for Pixel, these builds are “intended to provide a system and app experience as close as possible to the behavior of Android 12 on a regular user’s device.”
Developer support images are system images based on stable public builds of Android 12 (API level 31) and feature release 12L (API level 32) which also includes an updated version of the bootloader with security fixes and an anti-rollback.
However, Google points out that “Developer support builds are for developers only and are not suitable for general use.” In terms of security, only the bootloader has been updated with “security fixes and an increased anti-rollback counter”, while other security patches are not included and there will be no OTA security updates.
