Lufthansa and BASF companies made one adhesive film AeroShark. It immediately reduces the fuel consumption and therefore the emissions of any aircraft. The idea is inspired by the slightly striped skin of the sharks that reduces the resistance of the water.

The movie is made up of millions”ribbing”Shaped like a prism on the surface of the AeroShark. These are no more than 50 micrometers high. Swiss is working to roll out AeroShark on all 12 of its 777s. This will save 4,800 tons of jet fuel per year. Also a way to reduce CO2 emissions by 15,200 tons. Swiss had also single-handedly announced the release of the film cargo fleet. The team says the film should in fact be more effective on cargo planes. It can be fitted on the hull, without rows of windows.

AeroShark is resistant UV rays, oil, water and large changes in temperature and pressure outside long-haul aircraft. The film has been tested on more than 1,550 flight hours and on Boeing 747-400s. When applied to the wing surfaces, it can help generate additional lift.

Lufthansa Technik and BASF are studying even more advanced technologies and then launching applications on other types of aircraft. Such an adhesive film is said to have been refined and improved in reducing fuel consumption and emissions by up to 3%. This technology can also be applied to electric aircraft, increasing their range.
