In Guatemalafound a group of archaeologists buried under the rubble of a pyramidwhat looks like the first model of Mayan calendar. It is one of the most important findings associated with this ancient population. About 7,000 pieces of various murals were found in the Guatemalan jungle site.

Archaeologists have a piece of plaster on which is painted a symbol representing a bard and a number seven above a deer and a date according to the 260-day system of the Mayan calendar.

It is one of the four Mayan calendars, the divination, called Tzolk’in, divided into 260 days, divided into 13 months of 20 days each. Each month is represented by a other symbol.

The other calendars are those of Long calculation timethat keeps track of time cycles, thehaabof 365 days, similar to the current and the moon calendar.

The fragment dates from III century b. C and is among the remains of a series of murals that adorned the temple. However, the Maya destroyed the temple around the second century BC and piled tons of rocks, patches of plaster and mud on top of the ruins new pyramid.

Archaeologists did not expect to find the symbol of the deer, as the word was written directly later. According to them, these fragments could be evidence of a preliminary stage in the development of the Maya script.
