Kuba Wojciechowskia Twitter developer with many confirmed leaks related to googleclaims to have received a full software build for the new Chromecast, which reveals several details about the device.
The first big point is the name, with the device called “Chromecast HD”Directly within the code. It’s not a solid guarantee that this is how Google would market the device, but it seems likely enough.
Other than that, the device apparently comes with a Amlogic S805X2 chipset. This provides support for AV1 decoding that the existing Chromecast lacks, but is still a pretty big downgrade from the 4K model. Clear limit video output to 1080pbut it doesn’t have the same raw power as the S905X3 in the Chromecast with Google TV, and to further reinforce the idea of lower performance, there’s 1.5GB of RAM on the device, a 25% drop from the 4K fashion model .
The other important detail here is that the software will be based on: android 12making it the first Google TV 12 streamer. The original Chromecast is still based on Android 10. While it will be a cheaper device, it seems clear that Google is learning from some of the flaws of the “premium” 4K model.
