For once it’s TikTok to chase the competition, not the other way around. The social network ByteDance now focuses on photos and replicates – in a way – the main function of Instagram. The new feature is called Photo mode.

Users can now share multiple still photos in one post, accompanied by a caption of up to 2,200 characters. The posts with pictures can also contain music and appear in the For you section along with the classic videos.

The new feature is going to warp TikTok, which until now has been a social media focused solely on videos. Users are already starting to use photo mode to share memes, replicating what they already see on Instagram, as well as Twitter and Facebook. Basically, it’s going to be a very different social network than we remembered it.

This is not the only significant change introduced by the ByteDance. Recently, TikTok also announced the imminent arrival of the I do not like: The new button is used to help the user view content more in line with their interests in the For You section.
