A study published last month in the journal Gynecology and Obstetrics Archives revealed important data for women considering saving their eggs for later pregnancies. According to the researchers, these expectant mothers should be encouraged to undergo elective oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing). before age 36.
Unlike previous research that determined the maximum freezing age of female gametes based on the number of successfully frozen eggs, the new study looked specifically at what happens when women try to use their cryopreserved genetic material to get pregnant.
The aim was to evaluate the relationship between oocyte production and some clinical, biochemical and radiological markers, including age and BMI. The retrospective cohort included all women attending the Center for Reproductive Health and Genetics (CRGH) in London, UK, for the EOC. over a ten-year period from 2008 to 2018.
The main results of the study
The female population analyzed by the current study is 373. The results showed that No live births were seen in women whose eggs were frozen after age 40.. As for women aged 36-39 who had their eggs frozen, this age group represented 82% of all live births.
Although the study was conducted at a single IVF center with expertise in the elective oocyte cryopreservation (EOC) technique, “women should be counseled on poor outcomes,” says research consultant Jara Ben Nagi. When they have invested in egg freezing for over 40 years.”
The conclusion was that clinical, biochemical and radiological markers could indeed predict oocyte production in EOC cycles. Therefore, reproductive success Higher when cryopreserved before age 36the lowest live birth success rates were observed in oocytes collected from women aged 40 years and over.
