We have always said that the biggest disadvantage of an electric car is its charge. And because of the fact that it is slow, because of the multiple recharging points and, finally, because of their low autonomy. For the first and last point, the decision entails additional research. As for the second, it is only will.
Although you only need to see the mileage we drive per year to buy an electric car and realize it’s worth it, there are steps you can take now to make it more attractive to encourage buying an electric car, despite the fact that prices do not accompany it.
Seattle City Lightenergy company based in Seattle, announced a new service last month in which the company plans to install chargerss for electric vehicles in certain areas of the city.
Target offer EV drivers who do not have access to off-street parking the ability to charge their vehicles on the very street.
City Light will install, own, operate and maintain Tier 2 electric vehicle chargers within city limits. lChargers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.
Each charger will provide a typical electric vehicle with a range of more than 50 kilometers per hour of charging. Drivers will pay a fee of 20 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for using chargers.
The rates are designed to pay for electricity, operation, maintenance and repair, while offsetting the initial purchase and installation costs that, according to Smart Cities Dive, it’s priced between $11,000 and $25,000 for a charging station.
City Light claims this service is necessary because many single-family homes and apartments typically don’t have off-street parking, such as a driveway or garage. This may make it difficult or impossible for residents to charge their own electric vehicle when parking on the street.
Charging station locations will be selected based on residents’ requests and compliance with program requirements. Steps in the right direction.
