As we imagined, Twitter in the end it will not completely revolutionize the system of blue check marksthat is, the verification of accounts that until now has been reserved exclusively for politicians, journalists, celebrities and all other people and organizations who actually needed protection against attempts at impersonation.

For some accounts, the check, no longer blue, remains free. With the next update of the social network, the badges will be two. A blue one, for all subscribers of Twitter Bluea premium paid plan that will provide access to some exclusive features, and a gray plan that will perform the features attributed to the old system.

After the first rumors published by The Verge, the Twitter Product Manager, Esther Crawfordconfirmed that the system will change and there will be two blue ticks soon.

l’gray label it will serve to distinguish the official profiles of companies, politicians in office, journalists, non-profit organizations and all other persons and organizations deserving of protection. “This label,” Crawford continues, “will not be attached to any previously blue-ticked accounts and cannot be purchased.” Essentially, it’s likely that all publicly relevant accounts (from Joe Biden to the BBC) will fall under the new free account verification system, the one with the gray check, while minor celebrities (such as some artists and influencers) check the blue, and they’ll pay $7. per month to get it back if they want.
