It tracked users’ location without their consent, Google agrees to pay a maxi fee for almost 400 million dollars, ending a dispute involving as many as 40 different US states. “An old story, we’ve already changed the rules and we’re working on other innovations for privacy,” Mountain View said in a note.
In a settlement, Google agreed to pay $391.5 million. A maxi-compensation, which will also have to be followed by major changes in the way Google tracks users. Google has committed to further increasing the transparency of its user profiling activities.
The story dates back to 2018, when an Associated Press investigation revealed how Google captured data from user location through its various applications, even if they were led to believe that tracking was turned off.
For years, Google has prioritized money over its users’ privacy. Consumers thought they turned off location tracking, but Google still secretly tracked their movements and sold information to advertisers

“In the coming months, we will be introducing several innovations, giving users more control over their location data and improving the transparency of our services,” the company reiterated. Among other things, Google makes it easier for you to delete your historical location data.
