The Italian project Irisone of the winners of the Pnrrr tender Research infrastructureshas started and will develop technologies for it particle accelerators new generation, especially for the large particle accelerator proposed to replace lhc to the Cern of Geneva, the Future Circular Collider (Fcc).

Iris also wants to work on the energy saving through the construction of new cables for the transmission of electricity, resulting in the losses. The project will consist of an infrastructure spread over the territory, will be financed with 60 million euros and will be led by theNational Institute of Nuclear Physics (Infn).

Infn will participate in the project through the sections of Genoa, Salerno, the National Laboratories of Frascati and the Laboratory of Accelerators and Applied Superconductivity (Lasa) of Milan. The Infn will be supported by the Universities of Genoa, Milan, Naples, Salento and Salerno, and the Institute of Superconductors, Innovative Materials and Devices of the National Research Council (Cnr-Spin).

The city of Salerno will see the creation of a technology development center of excellence hot superconductivityable to operate at temperatures of -200°C compared to cold superconductivity which operates at temperatures of -270°C.
