To increase user privacy and security, it will soon be possible to create a password for the desktop version of Whatsapp.

WhatsApp is already testing the new access mode via desktop, according to a report published by WABetaInfo. Users can set a password to unlock the computer version of the application. Every time the application is opened, it asks for the password.

The new security measure is optional and users can decide whether to activate it or not. If the password is lost, users can still access their account by simply re-linking the device to their profile using the QR code generated on the phone.

This security measure should help users protect their password, for example when using a computer that is shared with other people. WhatsApp has been offering the option for some time to secure the app for iOS and Android with an access code.

We remind you that this feature has not yet been officially announced by WhatsApp. It is currently still in development and before we see it on the stable version of WhatsApp desktop it may take several months.
