Xiaomi worked on one top class folding. The project was definitely canceled, but in return, the mysterious smartphone popped up in some images. A folder that differs from all others on the market.

The foldable smartphone from Xiaomi had a peculiar mechanism: the screen folded outwards. The images have been released by the leaker Kuba Wojciechowski on Twitter. Unfortunately, the message has been removed for unknown reasons. Perhaps the Chinese giant’s lawyers intervened? Doesn’t matter, because fortunately it is still possible to easily find the photos of the device.

Xiaomi had never publicly announced that it was working on a foldable smartphone with these features. The form factor is booklet, like the Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Huawei Mate X. However, the mechanism for opening and closing the screen was one of a kind.

Unlike other folders of this type on the market, the fold out allows you to have a single screen, eliminating the need for a third external screen (as we find on the Oppo Fold4 and Find N). This obviously reduces the overall thickness of the phone, making it more ‘pocket-friendly’.

Xiaomi’s leaflet spec sheet featured a Snapdragon 856 and a 5G X50 modem, which would put it at the top of its category in the period it – originally – should have been released. In the end nothing came of it, Xiaomi canceled the project: perhaps producing a phone with this screen opening mechanism turned out to be more difficult than expected?
