Chinese researchers have discovered lithium-ion particles a battery electric car, distribute them more evenly. Conclusion Up to 60% charge in just six minutesWithout the configuration, which uses graphite and copper nanowires to create more internal structure, it affects energy storage.

Traditional electric batteries, mostly made of lithium ions, use binders to solidify the anode, the electrode from which the positive electric charge flows into the device. This causes these particles to be randomly scattered throughout the structure, resulting in slower loading times.

How was the new battery optimized?

To solve this problem, a team of scientists led by Professor Yao Hongbin from the China University of Science and Technology in Hefei decided to arrange the particles in order of size and reduce the spaces (porosity) between them. The porosity was “higher at the top and lower at the bottom, so the average porosity has a normal value,” Yao explains in an interview with New Scientist magazine.

The improvement has been proven in laboratory tests, which revealed that the optimized battery can be charged up to 60% of its capacity in 5.6 minutes and up to 80% in 11.4 minutes. The result was considered excellent, it takes about 30 minutes for a Tesla battery to reach 80% charge at a Supercharger station.

While the process is efficient, researchers have expressed concern about the costs of adding new materials to the battery’s structure.
