AMD’s Zen 3 APUs saw significant performance gains late last year when using the Linux 5.16 core. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is still based on version 5.15 but also seems to be making nice gains for Ryzen 4000 apus. Intel’s tenth generation Comet Lake processors lag far behind and even lose performance in some cases.

Two passively cooled embedded systems were used for testing. The relative performance of the OnLogic ML100G-41 with the octacore Ryzen 7 4800U at 15W compared to the OnLogic Helix 500 with an octa-core Core i7-10700T at 35W.

AMD’s integrated graphics perform significantly better on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS compared to 20.04.4, while Intel loses performance here.

Intel’s CPU is showing some progress in processor tests, but Ryzen is by far the top performer here too.

In total, the 4800U has become almost 8.7 percent faster with the new Linux version. The i7-10700T barely benefits from this at just 0.7 percent.
