Trend Micro’s Apex One antivirus software has been experiencing a bug lately. Users say that the software recognizes the Microsoft Edge browser as a trojan. The program says that the malware is located in the browser’s installation folder named TROJ_FRS.VSNTE222 and TSC_GENCLEAN. However, this is a false alarm.

Developers recommend updating and using Smart Scan Agent Pattern version 17.541.00 and Smart Scan Pattern build 21474.139.09. A workaround has also been posted. If the update doesn’t fix the problem and browser version 101.0.1210.32 is still identified as a trojan, Edge can be added to Apex One’s exception list. The Microsoft application is then classified as trusted and is no longer scanned by the virus scanner.

In addition to misclassification, some users report that a false alarm causes changes to the Windows registry. Some customers have used Apex One’s built-in cleanup tool, which tries to disable the Edge browser component detected by the Trojan. Trend Micro has provided a script to help users restore their original registry entries.
