Western Digital is launching a new Pro-Blade modular SSD ecosystem under the SanDisk brand, which it says is aimed at users who need portable storage devices that can hold terabytes of data.

The system includes Pro-Blade ssd mag, a portable ssd enclosure and desktop ssd enclosure. The Pro-Blade SSD mag is an NVMe SSD mag that comes in 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB capacities and costs between $180 and $600. The Pro-Blade ssd mag must protect against drops from three meters and be protected against deformation.

Portable USB-C SSD enclosure includes one of the Pro-Blade mags for on-the-go use. It supports read/write speeds of up to 2000MB/s with USB-C, making it easy to switch between folders when the enclosure is used with a USB-C compatible camera. The SSD case is priced at $70, but it also comes with one of the Pro-Blade magazines starting at $240.

The desktop SSD enclosure can accommodate up to four SSD magazines and supports higher transfer rates than a portable SSD enclosure, thanks to the 40Gbps Thunderbolt interface. According to SanDisk, the enclosure and SSDs allow for real-time 4K/8K/12K editing and super-fast copying.

Pro-Blade SSDs and portable SSD chassis will be available in June, and desktop chassis in the fall.
