Microsoft has introduced several customizable accessories that can be used by people with disabilities to extend or replace traditional keyboards and mice. The product line consists of Adaptive Mouse, Adaptive Buttons and Adaptive Hub.

The mouse’s buttons and sensor are housed in a small square frame that can be placed on a corresponding palm rest. It has an interchangeable thumb rest that allows both left and right-handed users to use the device. It should also be easy to add 3D-printed ‘tails’ designed for specific needs.

Adaptive buttons let you program a variety of input options, from hotkeys to complex macros. Microsoft has demonstrated several input options, including a d-pad, joystick, and two large buttons that can be easily pressed. As with the mouse, 3D-printed attachments are supported for further customization of functionality. Connecting the Adaptive Buttons to a PC or smartphone requires the Adaptive Hub: it supports up to four Buttons simultaneously and also offers some 3.5mm connections.

All of the accessories are wireless and come with a rechargeable battery. They are expected in the fall of this year, suggested retail prices are not yet known.
