Sony has released the WH-1000XM5 as the successor to the popular XM4. Two processors are built in, which analyze ambient noise with eight microphones and suppress them as optimally as possible. The drivers are 30mm and should provide enhanced bass response and sound clarity. The lightweight carbon fiber composite material should provide better sensitivity at high frequencies.

There are four beamforming microphones for phone calls and there is built-in (wind) noise suppression. Sony mentions that the solder metal is lead-free and contains gold for optimum electrical conductivity. There is support for Sony’s own codec LDAC. Also available is 360 Reality Audio and Adaptive Sound Control.

The headband is infinitely adjustable and the ear cushions are finished with soft artificial leather. In addition to the standard options, the touchpad and buttons can be used to quickly open Spotify or switch devices. The XM5 has Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC with a battery life of 30 hours. After 3 minutes of charging, the sound can be played for 3 hours, you need to wait 10 minutes for 5 hours.

The WH-1000XM5 comes in a durable packaging with a collapsible lid. The headset is immediately available for 420 euros and the colors available are black or gray.
